8th Grade Career Day-March 3, 2010

Guest Speakers
Speakers are arranged throughout the year for specific classrooms or topics.

Great Xplorations Career Fair - (GXCF)-Date TBD for 2010
This is an annual event held at the McKimmon Center and is sponsored by the Northern Area Business Alliances.  Eighth-Tenth graders are exposed to a variety of careers and career pathways.  Approximately 2500 students participate from middle and high schools throughout the county.  Over 100 businesses set up tables and displays to talk to students about careers in their business or organization.

Penny Drive
Annually, Durant Middle partners with one of our alliance partners, Food Lion, to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network by collecting pennies (or any denomination of money).  In the Fall 2007, Durant students raised a total of $1915.35.

Truck Fair - April 21, 2010
Each spring, 6th graders enjoy seeing careers through motion. A variety of trucks and vehicles fill the parking lot for students to learn about the careers and necessary skills.

Engineer’s Week - February 17-21, 2010
DRMS 7th grade students will hear from nearly 30 speakers from the engineering field. Students will participate in hands-on activities, view videos, and answer trivia questions throughout the week.

Take Your Sons and Daughters to Work Day - April 22, 2010
Students that wish to participate will be required to complete the appropriate forms and questionnaire about their experience.
